Week 8

This week I had problems in controlling the students behavior, my MCT & MST gave several notes and comments which showed me that this became a problem.

In the class we have a traffic chart for behavior which seems that it is not working any more with the students. the reason behind that because both teachers seems to use it put not really applying the banishment or the rewarding. for example, when one child name goes to the red traffic light the teacher will say you will stay 5 minutes in the class before you go outside to play but when the class finishes she will completely forget about what she said. it seems that the students realized that and start to ignore it now.

Today I tried anew thing which is not about banishments and focusing on the negative behavior. the first thing was the positive comments. I had one girl which is so active and have negative behaving, today I tried this strategy with her a lot. it was surprising how effective it was using positive comments my school teacher was surprised about this girl behavior, I hope tomorrow she keeps the good behaving.

the second thing, was creating two crowns. each day having a class queen and king who are behaving well and listening to the teacher all day. those will have the crown and wear it for the rest of the day. such things really motivate the student to behave well. even that at the end of the day they will return the crown but they still happy and proud about having it for one day.

I will think for other things , especially during the whole time in the carpet, I need new strategy to grasp their attention.

if you have any effective ideas post it plz

Week 6

The first week after the holiday was all about reviewing things with students. As they finished all the letters and the numbers, my goal was assessing students learning with my teacher.

First thing that I noticed is, my students love games and competitions and they really get motivated and engaged to participate even  the ones who rarely speak or work. For that I decided to assess and review the student knowledge of letters for literacy and numbers for numeracy. For the literacy the activity was for each group, the group was about 4 and 5 students each. As you can see from the picture, I wrote each child name in small board then I showed each one a card with the letter. If the child know it he get a point and if he didn’t I asked another one and so on. at the end we had a winner how get extra time for playing time.
For the numeracy it was as a group work.

Another activity for assessing and reviewing was using the smart board because the student love it and it is new to them. I use it for many things like letters , numbers and words.

Second Week - Second activity

Second activity ( 3D shapes ‘ Pyramid’ )

This week for the numeracy lessons, students are taking 3D shapes. One lesson that I did was about the pyramid so the activity was making pyramid using paper.
The high group abilities did the activity well while the low group ability faced a problem and only one child could make the pyramid. For the other students in the group it was difficult for them so I tried to do break the instruction of the activity into small steps and I modeled each one of them and make sure that each child did it. However, some student couldn’t do it, so mw and the English teacher helped them in sticking their pyramids.
It seems that the activity was difficult for this group and some of the students fine motor skills are not ready yet for such activities. Next time, I will try to provide an activity that support and develop their fine motor skills because they need more work on them.

Second Week - First activity

First activity ( making sandwich)
We still going on the food unite and the words for this week are ( bread, chicken, and chees) I decided to provide an activity that include all these things which is making sandwich. The students were very excited to make their own sandwich. The activity went well and the students love it. Most of the students finished making their sandwich quickly and eat it, so during the extra time I asked them questions about the activity such as what did you put inside your sandwich , which one you liked most and so on .

First Week- Third activity

The third activity ( Hopscotch game)
In this activity I used 4 cards these cards includes the sentence ( I like to eat ) words ( Tomato , cucumbers, cherries. Carrots). In the ground I put the hopscotch game but in staid of numbers there will be pictures of the 4 fruits and vegetables ( Tomato , cucumbers, cherries. Carrots). The child will pick a card and then he will try to read it . When he read it he will try to show if he understand which fruit is this by jumping to the fruit picture.
However, I noticed that most of the students couldn’t read the sentence because it was difficult for them so I changed the game to be , me saying the name of the fruit or vegetable and the child need to jump and show that he understand which one I mean.

First Week - Second activity

The second activity ( Guessing the food game)
During this activity I divided the class to two teams. ( boys and girls), take each time one boy and one girl. Ask the boy and they girl to close their eyes and give each one type of fruit or vegetable and ask them to taste it and feel it then they should guess what it is. The one who know first will add a point to his team. Complete the activity until we have a winner.

I could make the activity more challenging by asking the students to describe the fruit or the vegetable.

First Week - First activity

This week my class started a new unite which is food, so I did several activities with the children related to the food theme.

The first activity ( Making food using mud)

During the outside time I asked the students to play with mud and try to make different types of food. the children were happy and having fun. Most of the girls were engaged while some boys were playing with the mud and not creating food. I tried to make them make different things than each other because most of them were copying each other work so I told them that this will be competition, who will make a healthy food. Then they started making fruits and vegetables and the activity went well.
